How does the destruction of Babylon parallel the destruction of the wicked at the Second Coming?

“The wicked will be like a hunted deer [roe, v. 14]; they will flee for their lives during this time … and they will be like unprotected sheep, meaning those who have not accepted Jesus as their shepherd may not receive his protection … .

“The sword [v. 15] represents war and its instruments. … In the last days, the wicked will destroy themselves. … Their children and wives will find no mercy from the destructive armies [vv. 16, 18]. The murder of children and the ravishing of wives is not new to history but represents here both an increase of the hideous crimes against nature and man’s savage inclination” (Parry et al., Understanding Isaiah, 137).
