Why does the Book of Mormon omit the word not from Isaiah 9:3?

Thomas R. Valletta

“The Book of Mormon changes the meaning of this statement by deleting the word ‘not’ before ‘increased the joy.’ The children of Israel, as promised to father Abraham (Abraham 2:9–10), will become numerous. Their joy will be great in the birth of the promised Christ child. Isaiah compares their joy to that received at the harvest festival, a time of national rejoicing, or when soldiers are victorious” (Brewster, Isaiah Plain and Simple, 88).
